Otakon 2011 Attendance, 2012 Date & Locale Announced

Otakon Chair Bob Klemens gives unofficial count as 31, 348 attendees
Closing ceremonies wrapped up Otakon 2011 with a new record attendance number for the convention. Con Chair Bob Klemens gave an unofficial total of 31,348 individual attendees for the July 29-31 convention. Next year, the convention will take place in the same location — the Baltimore Convention Center in Baltimore, Maryland — from July 27 to July 29.
Otakon's Charity Auction to benefit those affected by the Great Eastern Japan Earthquake (Higashi Nihon Daishinsai) disaster raised at least $43,000. The top auction items sold for the following amounts:
- Haruhiko Mikimoto's original Macross illustration: US$9,100
- Original Belldandy artwork by Hidenori Matsubara: US$5,500
- Design drawing for the new Rurouni Kenshin PSP game by Nobuhiro Watsuki: US$2,100
- Original SDF-1 Macross toy signed by Noboru Ishiguro: US$2,100
