ToHeart2's Mitsumi Illustrates Last Mayoi Neko Overrun Novel

3rd new illustrator since Peco left Tomohiro Matsu's light novel series in 2010

Advertising for the 12th volume of Tomohiro Matsu's Mayoi Neko Overrun! light novels has revealed that it will be the final volume in the series. The advertising also reports that Misato Mitsumi (Comic Party, ToHeart2) is illustrating the volume. Yasu (Toradora!) had illustrated the 10th volume, while Hekiru Hikawa (Pani Poni) illustrated the 11th volume.

The publisher Shueisha had announced in August that every Mayoi Neko Overrun! light novel volume from that point on will have a different illustrator. Peco was the illustrator of the first nine volumes between 2008 and 2010. However, there was a 13-month gap between when the ninth volume shipped in July of 2010 and when the 10th volume shipped this past August.

Last year's television anime adaptation of Mayoi Neko Overrun! employed a similar strategy; every episode of the anime had a different director, starting with Shin Itagaki, Kenichi Yatani, and Yoshimasa Hiraike. Kentarō Yabuki (To Love-Ru -Trouble-, Black Cat) launched the manga version in Jump Square last year. However, Shueisha abruptly announced the manga's end on the same day that that it announced the return of the novels without Peco.

The story revolves around Takumi Tsuzuki, a boy who lives with his older "sister" Otome, although the two have no blood ties between them. Otome manages a run-down confectionary store called Stray Cats. Otome picks up a mysterious beautiful girl off the streets, and more "Stray Cats" arrive at the store.
