Yasuko to Kenji's Aruko draws new romantic comedy manga

The May issue of Shueisha's Bessatsu Margaret magazine began serialization on author Kazune Kawahara (High School Debut) and artist Aruko's (Yasuko to Kenji, Shūdensha) new manga series Ore Monogatari!! (My Story) on Friday.

The romantic comedy manga revolves around the love triangle between the unattractive Takeo Gouda, his cool and attractive childhood friend Sunagawa, and the pure Yamato, whose specialty is making candy. The original 100-page story was published in an issue of Bessatsu Margaret Sister in October 2011, but the manga is now returning in Bessatsu Margaret as a serialized work. The original story was compiled into a book form (pictured at right) and published in March. Part of the original story is also available digitally on Bessatsu Margaret's website.

Kawahara's High School Debut shōjo manga also ran in Bessatsu Margaret between 2003-2008. Viz Media released all 13 volumes of the manga between 2008-2010. A live-action film adaptation of the manga premiered in April 2011. The live-action film adaptation itself inspired a five-episode mobile phone spinoff show in March 2011.

Aruko's Yasuko to Kenji manga was adapted into a live-action television show in 2008 starring Masahiro Matsuoka.
