Drawn & Quarterly to release Shigeru Mizuki's supernatural manga next month

The comics news website Comic Book Resources posted a 15-page preview on Monday of North American publisher Drawn & Quarterly's upcoming release of Shigeru Mizuki's supernatural manga Kitaro (GeGeGe no Kitarō). The preview comes from the "Monster Night Game" chapter of the manga.

The manga, which began in 1959 under the name Hakaba Kitarō, has spawned seven television series (including one Hakaba Kitarō anime), several animated movies, and two live-action films. The stories center on an inhuman boy who straddles the line between the human and supernatural worlds.

Drawn & Quarterly previously published Mizuki's NonNonBâ and Onward Towards Our Noble Deaths. Mizuki won the Asahi Prize in 2009 for his contributions to culture and society.

Drawn & Quarterly will release the volume in January 2013.
