New Godzilla Film Shuffles Producers, Adds Frank Darabont

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

Deadline reported that Legendary Pictures' Godzilla remake is adding a new writer, while letting go two of its top producers.

Frank Darabont, writer of The Walking Dead, The Mist, and The Green Mile scripts, is doing a final script rewrite for the film. Drew Pearce (Iron Man 3, Sherlock Holmes 3) already rewrote the script by David Callaham (Doom, The Expendables), David S. Goyer (The Dark Knight Rises, Blade Trinity) and Max Borenstein (Swordswallowers and Thin Men).

Deadline adds that Legendary Pictures is in a dispute with Warner Bros. producers Dan Lin (Sherlock Holmes) and Roy Lee (The Woman in Black, The Grudge 3). Lin last spoke about the film with Collider, revealing it would start filming in Vancouver, British Columbia in March. Remaining producers include Thomas Tull, Jon Jashni, Yoshimitsu Banno, Kenji Okuhira, Doug Davison, and Brian Rogers. Legendary Pictures is working to sign Mary Parent (Pacific Rim, The Kingdom) to the production team.

The trade magazine Variety writer Justin Kroll tweeted that Joseph Gordon-Levitt (The Dark Knight Rises, Inception) and Henry Cavill (Man of Steel, Immortals, The Tudors) are studio choices to star in the film, while Scoot McNairy (Killing Them Softly) and Caleb Landry Jones (X-Men: First Class, Contraband) are creative choices. According to The Hollywood Reporter's Borys Kit, Gordon-Levitt already passed on the role after receiving the offer in November.
