Yen Press began previewing its release of Cassandra Jean's graphic novel Beautiful Creatures inspired by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl's original novel on the MTV Geek website on Thursday. Yen Press announced the release at Sakura-Con last April.
Yen Press describes the story as follows:
Lena Duchannes is unlike anyone the small Southern town of Gatlin has ever seen, and she's struggling to conceal her power and a curse that has haunted her family for generations. But even within the overgrown gardens, murky swamps and crumbling graveyards of the forgotten South, a secret cannot stay hidden forever. Ethan Wate, who has been counting the months until he can escape from Gatlin, is haunted by dreams of a beautiful girl he has never met. When Lena moves into the town's oldest and most infamous plantation, Ethan is inexplicably drawn to her and determined to uncover the connection between them. In a town with no surprises, one secret could change everything.
The graphic novel goes on sale this month for US$9.99 for the digital edition and US$16.99 for the hardcover print edition. A film adaptation will open in theaters on Thursday.
Update: Jun Mochizuki is not illustrating the cover image for the graphic novel series. Cassandra Jean is both illustrating the graphic novel and providing the cover art. Additionally, the digital version of the graphic novel will retail for US$9.99, not US$3.99 as previously written.
