Sword Art Online Inspires Girls Ops Manga

Neko Nekobyō to draw manga focusing on characters Lisbeth, Silica, Leafa

Artist Neko Nekobyō (Night Wizard Variable Witch, Mahō Zakkaten Vi Via) will launch the Sword Art Online: Girls Ops manga based on Reki Kawahara and abec's light novel series in the 32nd issue of ASCII Media Works' Dengeki Bunko Magazine on June 10. The new manga will focus on the characters Lisbeth, Silica, and Leafa.

Highlight the below text for a more specific description of the manga, which contains spoilers.

[Specifically, the manga takes place both in the real world at the school for those who returned from Sword Art Online alive, and inside the "Alfheim Online" fantasy game, and will follow the three girls on a new adventure.]

Dengeki Bunko Magazine is launching the manga after fans campaigned that the three characters did not have many appearances in the original light novels.

The Sword Art Online television anime series adapts Kawahara's (Accel World) light novel series of the same name. The story revolves around a boy named Kazuto "Kirito" Kirigaya who enters a virtual-reality, massively multi-player online (MMO) world called "Sword Art Online." There is no escape from this world unless the player clears the game, but "game over" means the death of the player. Crunchyroll streamed the 25-episode series outside of Japan as it aired. Aniplex of America will release the series on home video with an English dub.
