posted on by Joanne Mertz

Production company Aniplex announced that it will release 2010's Gintama: The Movie on Blu-ray Disc in Japan on June 26 for 5,250 yen (about US$53). The movie is the first project in the franchise to receive a Blu-ray edition in Japan.

The movie's plot revolved around the silver-haired samurai Sakata Gintoki as he investigates the disappearance of a legendary sword named Benizakura. Meanwhile, his partners Kagura and Shimura Shinpachi try to find out what has happened to Gintoki's friend, Kotaro Katsura.

Sentai Filmworks already released its Blu-ray version of the movie in North America in May 2012.

The movie originally premiered in Japan in 2010.
