Young Ace Reprints Last Evangelion Chapter After Issue Sells Out

posted on

The July issue of Kadokawa Shoten's Young Ace magazine included the final chapter of Yoshiyuki Sadamoto's Neon Genesis Evangelion manga and has been selling out in stores in Japan since its release on Tuesday.

As a result, Kadokawa Shoten announced that it will reprint the final chapter in its August issue of Young Ace on July 4. It is very rare for a manga magazine to publish a chapter twice in two different issues. Square Enix's Monthly Shonen Gangan magazine reprinted the final chapter of Hiromu Arakawa's Fullmetal Alchemist manga in 2010, and the final chapter of Mitsuru Adachi's Mix manga ran again in Shogakukan's Gessan magazine in 2012.

Sadamoto launched the Neon Genesis Evangelion manga in the third issue ever published of Monthly Shōnen Ace magazine in December of 1994 — before the anime premiered on television. It has been running on and off for over 18 years since then. To celebrate the finale, Young Ace ran an "Evangelion Comic Climax Special Program" with talk sessions between the people involved and other content in the issues leading up to the conclusion.
