Attack on Titan Manga Sells 20 Million Copies

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

The 11 volumes of Hajime Isayama's popular Attack on Titan manga have sold 20.38 million copies as of Sunday, September 8, according to the market research firm Oricon.

It is the seventh manga series to top 20 million copies (including limited editions) since Oricon began posting its book ranking charts in 2008. The other series include Kimi ni Todoke (which accomplished the feat with the 18th volume earlier this year), One Piece, and Naruto.

The 11 volumes of the Attack on Titan manga had more than 20 million copies in print in July, and volume 11 received a 1.85-million first printing. All 11 volumes have regularly appeared in the top 40 of Oricon's weekly manga sales charts. Volume 11 was released last month and is currently ranked #12 on the Oricon charts with an estimated 75,525 copies sold.

The first nine volumes had 10 million copies in print as of last December, but its popularity jumped even more after its television anime premiered in April. A source told the Mainichi Shimbun paper's Mantan Web site that Attack on Titan is a "once-in-a-decade hit."
