Miyazaki's The Wind Rises Film's 1st Domestic Trailer Streamed

Director's final film to open in U.S. with subtitled, dubbed screenings on February 21

The Hollywood news website Deadline posted the first domestic trailer for the North American release of Hayao Miyazaki's 11th and final film The Wind Rises film on Monday. While the trailer features English text, it does not feature any dialogue. The trailer also features Yumi Matsutoya's theme song "Hikōki Gumo."

The trailer notes that the film has been rated PG-13 "for some disturbing images and smoking."

Disney's Touchstone Pictures screened the film for one week in Los Angeles and New York City last week. The film will open in a limited release in the United States with both dub and subtitled screenings on February 21, before expanding wider in subsequent weeks.

The story centers on Jirō Horikoshi (played by Evangelion director Hideaki Anno), the designer of Japan's famed Mitsubishi A6M Zero fighter plane of World War II. Disney will release the film in North America, and Studio Ghibli International will produce the English-language dub with producer Frank Marshall (From Up On Poppy Hill, The Secret World of Arrietty, Ponyo).

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced earlier this month that The Wind Rises is one of 19 films submitted for consideration in the Animated Feature Film category for the 86th Academy Awards to be held on March 2. The film is also included on the shortlist for the 71st Annual Golden Globe's Best Foreign Language Film category.
