Magical Warfare Anime's 1st Promo Previews Yuuki Nanri's Theme Song

Mikako Takahashi joins cast for modern magic action story premiering on January 9

The official website for the television anime adaptation of Hisashi Suzuki's Magical Warfare (Mahō Sensō) light novel series began streaming the show's first promotional video on Monday. The video previews voice actress and singer Yuuka Nanri's opening theme song "Senkō no Prisoner."

The website also revealed on Monday that Mikako Takahashi will play Momoka Shijō.

The show stars Mamoru Miyano as Takeshi Nanase, Nao Tōyama as Mui Aiba, Asami Seto as Kurumi Isoshima, Kenichi Suzumura as Kazumi Ida, and Nobuhiko Okamoto as Gekkō Nanase. Additionally, Toshiyuki Morikawa will play Tsuganashi Aiba, Jun Fukuyama will play Takao Oigami, and Kazuya Nakai will play Kippei Washizu.

Yūzō Satō (Kaiji, Iron Man, Gokusen) is directing the series at Madhouse. Kazuyuki Fudeyasu (Hajime no Ippo Rising, Miss Monochrome, Walkure Romanze) is handling the series composition, and Ryōma Ebata (Busou Shinki, Birdy the Mighty: Decode) is serving as both character designer and chief animation director. Masato Kōda (Arpeggio of Blue Steel) is handling the music.

In this modern magic action story, Takeshi Nanase is an ordinary high school boy who has a somewhat dark past. Due to certain circumstances, he formed a "fake" couple with his childhood friend Kurumi Isoshima, but otherwise, he lives a normal life. However, one day, he comes across a girl named Mui Aiba, in a uniform he has never seen before, collapsed on the school campus. This encounter changes Takeshi's destiny completely. Mui tells Takeshi that she is a magician, and she apologizes, for she turned Takeshi into a magician, too. What Takeshi once knew as one world is actually two — the world where magicians live and the world where humans live.

The series will debut on TBS on January 9 before airing on MBS, CBC, and BS-TBS.

Suzuki launched the light novel series in 2011 with art by Lunalia, and Media Factory published the sixth volume in August. Yū Ibuki has been drawing the manga adaptation in Media Factory's Monthly Comic Gene magazine since this year.
