Kenji Tsuruta to Resume Bōken Electriciteit-tō Manga

Manga by Spirit of Wonder creator follows female pilot, cat who discover legendary island

Kenji Tsuruta's Bōken Electriciteit-tō (Electriciteit Island of Adventures) manga returned from hiatus in the June issue of Kodansha's Monthly Afternoon magazine on April 25.

The manga revolves around a girl named Mikura who inherits the will of her beloved grandfather and works as a solo pilot in search of the legendary island Electriciteit. Along with her cat, she arrives at the island by complete coincidence.

The original 150-page work from Tsuruta was published in Kodansha's Manga Box AMASIA anthology in 2010, and it was later announced that the manga would begin serialization in Afternoon in 2012. Kodansha shipped the first compiled volume in Japan in October 2011.

Tsuruta's Spirit of Wonder manga inspired two original video animations (OVAs) in 1992 and 2001. Dark Horse Comics licensed and published the original manga in 1998, and AnimEigo released the first OVA under the title Spirit of Wonder: Miss China's Ring, while Bandai Entertainment released the second OVA titled Spirit of Wonder Scientific Boys Club.
