Live-Action Kite Released Monday

Also, new Naruto Shippūden and Dragon Ball, advance digital release of Appleseed Alpha.

On Monday October 13, Anchor Bay will release the live-action version of the 1998 anime Kite on both Blu-ray (pictured) and DVD. The film is based on Yasuomi Umetsu's 1998 action OAV, and stars India Eisley (Underworld: Awakening, The Secret Life of the American Teenager), Callan McAuliffe (The Great Gatsby), and Samuel L. Jackson (Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Django Unchained). Ralph Ziman directed the film off a screenplay by Brian Cox, with Anant Singh and Moisés Cosío producing.

The film's official website gives this synopsis:

Based on the groundbreaking, cult classic anime, KITE tells the story of Sawa (India Eisley,"The Secret Life of the American Teenager," Underworld: Awakening), a young woman living in a corrupt society where crime and gangs terrorize the streets. When Sawa's mother and policeman father are found victims of a grisly double homicide, she begins a ruthless pursuit for the man who murdered them. With the help of her father's ex-partner, Karl Aker (Samuel L. Jackson, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, The Avengers, Django Unchained), and a mysterious friend from her past (Callan McAuliffe, The Great Gatsby, I Am Number Four), she becomes a merciless teen assassin, blasting her way through the dark world of human trafficking only to uncover a devastating truth.

Manga Entertainment will release new volumes in two of its ongoing action franchises. One of them is Naruto Shippūden, with Box Set 19 being released. carrying episodes 232 to 244 of the series.

Manga will also release the fourth season of the original Dragon Ball series, which covers the 'Tien Shinhan Saga' and the 'King Piccolo Saga.'

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment is digitally releasing Appleseed Alpha, in advance of the title's release on DVD and Blu-ray on October 27. It is a CG-animated film of Masamune Shirow's science-fiction manga Appleseed.

MVM had previously scheduled the four-part OAV continuation of the series Kokoro Connect for this date, but the title ('Kokoro Connect OVA Collection") is now listed online for Otober 27. The original TV series is already available.
