Food Wars: Shokugeki no Sōma TV Anime Briefly Listed by Bookstore

Cooking comedy manga by Yūto Tsukuda, Shun Saeki launched in Shonen Jump in 2012

The main Gofuku branch of the Yajimaya bookstore chain briefly reported on Twitter on Tuesday that a television anime adaptation of Yūto Tsukuda and Shun Saeki's comedy manga Shokugeki no Sōma (Food Wars!: Shokugeki no Sōma) has been green-lit for next year. The post has since been removed.

Saeki and Tsukuda launched the manga in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in November 2012, and Shueisha published the ninth compiled manga volume in September. Yuki Mirosaki, a cosplay chef and model, also contributes to the manga, and each volume of the manga features recipes.

North American publisher Viz Media announced plans to release the manga in November 2013, and published the second compiled manga volume in North America on October 7. The company initially decided not to add the manga to its digital Weekly Shonen Jump anthology because the series is "a little racy," but then announced on Monday that the manga will join the anthology's lineup next week.

The manga centers on Sōma, who works with his dad at his family's restaurant. His dad is a culinary master, and he often hosts cooking battles with his father. His father then enrolls him in an elite culinary school that is very difficult to enter, and the graduation rate is only about 10 percent.

French publisher TONKAM mentioned an "amine" of Food Wars!: Shokugeki no Sōma manga in June, but later notified ANN that no anime was planned and changed its post.
