Snow White with the Red Hair Manga Gets Original Anime DVD

30-minute anime shipping in January to adapt 3 chapters from Sorata Akiduki's manga

The October issue of Hakusensha's LaLa magazine is revealing on Monday that Sorata Akiduki's Snow White with the Red Hair (Akagami no Shirayuki-hime) manga is inspiring an original anime DVD (OAD). The DVD will ship with the limited edition of the 15th volume of the manga on January 5. The bundle will retail for 3,700 yen (about US$30), and the pre-order deadline is November 11.

The 30-minute OAD will adapt three chapters from the original manga, and it will not air as part of the ongoing television anime series. The OAD is adapting the 41st chapter of the manga where Shirayuki and Zen go on a date in the castle town. The anime is also adapting a special chapter from volume seven — which follows Prince Raji as a child — as well as a special chapter from volume 11 that chronicles how Zen, Mitsuhide, and Kiki first met.

The OAD will feature the same staff and cast as the television anime series.

Akiduki's original manga and the anime revolve around Shirayuki (Saori Hayami), a beautiful girl working as a medicine woman who has red hair, which is very rare in her country. When she is proposed and chased after by Raji (Jun Fukuyama), the prince of her country, she runs away, only to meet Zen (Ryota Ohsaka), the prince of a neighboring country. Finding respect for the young man, she decides to serve at his side as his court doctor.

Masahiro Ando (Hanasaku Iroha - Blossoms for Tomorrow, Blast of Tempest) is directing the anime at the studio BONES.

Funimation is streaming the TV anime series as it airs. The anime is airing as two split seasons, with the second season airing in 2016.

Akiduki began the manga in LaLa in its September 2006 issue, and Hakusensha shipped the 14th compiled volume of the series on July 3.
