Risa Niigaki, Yūya Matsushita star in play running in Tokyo in March

This year's 22nd issue of Hakusensha's Hana to Yume magazine is announcing the cast on Tuesday for the stage play adaptation of Mizuho Kusanagi's fantasy shōjo manga Yona of the Dawn (Akatsuki no Yona). The magazine is also revealing the cast in costume.

The cast includes:

  • Risa Niigaki (Sōshū Yakyoku stage play) as Yona
  • Yūya Matsushita (Black Butler, Boys Over Flowers musicals) as Hak
  • Masato Saki as Su-Won
  • Yūta Higuchi as Yun
  • Ryō Kitamura as Kija
  • Kōichi Takamatsu as Sinha
  • Tatsunari Kimura as Jaeha
  • Shōhei Hashimoto as Zeno

The play will run at the EX Theater Roppongi in Tokyo for 10 performances from March 16-21.

Viz Media announced earlier this month that it has licensed the manga, and it describes the story:

The fantasy adventure shojo manga series that also inspired the fan favorite anime about a princess who's on a quest to reclaim her throne! Princess Yona lives an ideal life as the only princess of her kingdom. Doted on by her father, the king, and protected by her faithful guard Hak, she cherishes the time spent with the man she loves, Soo-won. But everything changes on her 16th birthday when she witnesses her father's murder!

Kusanagi, the creator of Mugen Spiral, Game X Rush, and NG Life, launched the Akatsuki no Yona manga in 2009. The manga's 19th volume shipped in September with an original anime DVD.

The 24-episode television anime of the manga ended in March. Crunchyroll and Funimation both streamed the series as it aired in Japan.
