The official website for Soubi Yamamoto's Kono Danshi, Mahō ga Oshigoto Desu. (This Boy, Works With Magic) TV anime series revealed the show's episode count, premiere date, cast, key visual, and story on Thursday.

The anime will be the fifth work in Yamamoto's Kono Danshi/This Boy project. Yamamoto is herself directing the series. The four-episode project will air during the "Ultra Super Anime Time" programming block starting on February 5 at 11:00 p.m. on Tokyo MX and on February 8 at 1:00 a.m. on BS11.

The "pathetic and beautiful" story revolves around Chiharu, who is a wizard in charge of the magic department's counter-measure division. His days are hectic, but he meets a candid young man named Toyohi at his favorite bar, and the two hit it off. On their way home, Toyohi suddenly confesses to Chiharu. Chiharu is at first bewildered at his unexpected confession, but he starts to fall into Toyohi's pace, and the two begin to spend more time together. However, after a mistake at work, Chiharu decides to devote himself to his work and pushes Toyohi away.

The anime stars:

Yūki Ono (Kuroko's Basketball's Taiga, Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma's Isami Aldini) as Chiharu Kashima, a 28-year-old government official. He works in the magic department's crisis counter-measure division as its commanding officer, and he is an excellent government official.

Taku Yashiro (KING OF PRISM by PrettyRhythm's Kakeru Jūōin, The Prince of Tennis II OVA vs. Genius 10's Tetsuhito Fuwa) as Toyohi Utsumi, a 21-year-old whose personality is free and uninhibited. He lives off of part-time jobs as he travels the world. He is charmed by Chiharu and confesses his love to him.

The anime will use the Live2D software.

The Sekkō Boys anime will also premiere this winter in the Ultra Super Anime Time programming block, although it will premiere on January 8.

As a 21-year-old, Yamamoto made her scriptwriting and directorial debut in 2011 with the first 28-minute Kono Danshi anime, Kono Danshi, Uchū-jin to Tatakaemasu. (This Boy Can Fight Aliens!). Her followup, Kono Danshi, Ningyo Hiroimashita. (This Boy Caught a Merman), was released in 2012. In 2013, the third installment titled Kono Danshi, Akunin to Yobaremasu. (This Boy Is Called A Scoundrel) was released as a drama CD. The fourth project, the Kono Danshi, Sekika ni Nayandemasu (This Boy Is Worrying About Crystalization) original anime DVD (OAD), shipped in Japan in December 2014. CoMix Wave Inc. produced all three anime works.

Sentai Filmworks licensed and released both This Boy Caught a Merman and This Boy Can Fight Aliens! for North America.

Yamamoto also directed the 13-episode Meganebu! TV anime series in 2013. Crunchyroll streamed the series as it aired, and Sentai Filmworks released the series in North America on home video.
