New Danganronpa V3 Game Previewed in Promo Video

posted on by Egan Loo
2016 game will have new prison academy setting, new characters

Spike Chunsoft presented a new promotional video for New Danganronpa V3: Minna no Koroshiai Shin Gakki (New Danganronpa V3: Everyone's New Semester of Killing), the latest installment in its Danganronpa mystery game series, at a Danganronpa project unveiling event on Wednesday.

The game is set in an academy fenced in by a massive cage. While New Danganronpa V3 will inherit the mascot character Monokuma and the basic system from previous games, it will not take place at Hope's Peak Academy and will not feature any other returning characters. The gameplay system will be an "evolution" of the previous games in the "high-speed detective action" genre. The video teases, "The world changes with 'lies'" and "Can you use 'lies'?"

The tag line in the visual above reads, "The curtain rises on a new act in Danganronpa."

Spike Chunsoft is developing the game for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita and plans to release it in 2016. Spike Chunsoft also announced a separate Danganronpa 3 -The End of Kibōgamine Gakuen- (Danganronpa 3 -The End of Hope's Peak Academy-) television anime series with an original story at Wednesday's event.

NIS America released the first and second Danganronpa games on PS Vita in North America and Europe last year under the names Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc and Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair. It also released the spinoff game Danganronpa Another Episode: Ultra Despair Girls (Zettai Zetsubō Shōjo Danganronpa: Another Episode, or Absolute Despair Girl Danganronpa: Another Episode).

The first game was adapted into a TV anime in 2013. Funimation streamed the anime as it aired in Japan. Funimation is also providing an English dub of the anime, and will release the series on DVD and Blu-ray this year.
