A live-action film adaptation of Sanami Suzuki's The Little Match Girl (Match Shōjo) manga has been green-lit. SKE48 member Sumire Satō will play the main character Rin. BOYS AND MEN male idol group members Yutaka Kobayashi and Takafumi Honda, and voice actor Kenshō Ono will also star in the movie as people with darkness in their hearts who encounter Rin. It will open in theaters in Japan on May 28.

Hiroshi Uchida is directing the film, with Kitaji Ishikawa penning the script. Hori Pro producing the film, and it is also distributing the film with Starcat.

The original manga follows the somewhat mysterious daily life of an enigmatic girl named Rin. Her "delusion matches" turns momentary delusions into reality in their flickering flames. The name of the manga draws inspiration from a fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen.

Kadokawa published the first two compiled book volumes of the manga in November 2014 and July 2015.

Kadokawa's Young Ace magazine announced last month that a 60-second anime promotional video for the manga is in the works, which will premiere in the YouTube channel of Kadokawa Anime in February.
