Monster Hunter Stories Game's Ads Preview Story, Partner Monsters

posted on by Karen Ressler
1st RPG in franchise ships on 3DS in Japan on October 8

Camcom began streaming two commercials for its upcoming Monster Hunter Stories Nintendo 3DS role-playing game on Monday. The first ad previews the game's adventure story while the second focuses on "otomon," or monsters that can be the player's partner in battle.

The game will ship in Japan on October 8. The package version will retail for 5,800 yen (about US$53), and the download version will retail for 5,546 yen (about US$50). First editions of the game will include a bonus download code for a Rioreus costume for Naviloo. Those with Monster Hunter X save data will also receive a Glavenus one-handed sword for the protagonist plus a Glavenus costume for Naviloo.

The game features the following characters (name spellings are not official):

The unnamed male or female protagonist, who is a novice Rider who has interest in the outside world, and who sets off on a journey with Naviloo. Players can customize the character's appearance.

Lilia, the protagonist's childhood friend who longs to go to the outside world. She has a lively personality and is like a big sister to everyone.

Shuval, a young man who is the protagonist's childhood friend. He has an obedient personality, but possesses a strong will to become a Rider.

Naviloo, who travels with the protagonist and supports him/her on his/her adventure. It is a Felyne, but it has an individual appearance, and there are still many mysterious sides to it. It loves donuts.

In the game's story, in a certain village of Riders, children start their adventure with a game of "Egg Hunting Tag." The protagonist, Lilia, and Shuval go into the forest and discover a monster egg, and the egg hatches. Through this meeting, the monster awakens, and the three friends each start to walk on their own separate paths.

CAPCOM has been planning the game for five years, and the game marks the first RPG in the franchise.

The game already has a TV anime adaptation in the works at david production that will premiere in October. The anime adaptation is titled Monster Hunter Stories RIDE ON. Funimation has licensed the series, and will begin streaming it in October. The series will be the first anime based on CAPCOM's Monster Hunter game franchise.
