Man sold "Fake FC Pocket" console containing illegal games over website

The Kyoto Prefectural Police's Anti-Cybercrime division arrested a 51-year-old man named Takayuki Matsunobu in the Kōtō ward of Tokyo on Monday for allegedly selling an illegal game console that contained illegal copies of Nintendo Famicom (NES) games over the "Pachimon TV" website. The suspect is charged with violating the Copyright Act, and he admitted to the charges. In his affidavit, the suspect stated that he stocked up on the consoles from China and sold about 100 units.

The charge indicates that the suspect allegedly sold one of the illegal consoles loaded with a copy of the Super Mario Bros. game for 2,999 yen (about US$29) to a 43-year-old man in Tokyo on June 17.

According to police, the suspect allegedly sold the console with the name "Nanchatte FC Pocket" (Fake FC Pocket). The system contains 600 games, 28 of which are Nintendo games. The police conducted a search of the Pachimon TV office and the suspect's home, and seized 50 units of the illegal console.

Nintendo began selling the NES Classic Edition, a console that contains 30 NES games, in North America on Friday. Nintendo offered a similar console named the Nintendo Classic Mini Famicom with different games in Japan on Thursday.
