Himōto! Umaru-chan Gets Original Anime Disc in Spring 2017

TV anime's cast, staff return for OAD

The official Twitter account for Sankaku Head's Himōto! Umaru-chan manga revealed on Thursday that the 10th compiled volume will include an original anime DVD (OAD). The bundle ships in spring 2017 and will retail for 3,400 yen (about US$31).

The Himōto! Umaru-chan television anime's staff and cast is returning for the original anime.

The manga's ninth compiled volume ships on Friday in Japan. The first compiled volume of the Akita Imokko! Ebina-chan (Akita Native Little Sister Ebina-chan) spinoff manga also ships this Friday.

The manga inspired a television anime that premiered in July 2015. Crunchyroll streamed the anime as it aired, and Sentai Filmworks licensed the anime for North America.

Masahiko Ohta (Yuruyuri, Kotoura-san) directed the television series off scripts by Takashi Aoshima (Yuruyuri, Kotoura-san) at Dogakobo (Engaged to the Unidentified, Laughing Under the Clouds). Yasunori Ebina (Yuruyuri, Fruits Basket) served as sound director and Aya Takano (Polar Bear's Café) designed the characters and served as chief animation director.

Sankaku Head launched the manga in Weekly Young Jump in 2013 (after running an earlier two-chapter Himōto! Umaru-chan! version in Miracle Jump in 2012). The manga centers around Taihei Doma and his little sister Umaru, who boasts beautiful looks as well as prowess in both school and sports. However, she has a certain secret. Everyone may think she is the ideal girl, but she is anything but. "Himōto" is a pun on "imōto" (little sister) and "himono," which means "dried fish," but in slang can refer to a woman who is proper in public but lazy at home.
