Manga About Fire Emblem Fates' Leo Begins Next Month

posted on by Karen Ressler

The February 2017 issue of Ichijinsha's Monthly Comic Zero Sum announced on Wednesday that a manga series based on the Fire Emblem Fates (Fire Emblem if) video games will debut in the March issue on January 28. The manga, titled Fire Emblem if: Nibelung no Hōkan (Fire Emblem Fates: Crown of Nibelung), will focus on the character Leo. Tama Yugyōji is drawing the series.

A Fire Emblem manga by Fire Emblem Fates character designer Yuusuke Kozaki (Donyatsu) and story writer Shin Kibayashi (GetBackers, The Knight in the Area) was scheduled to launch in September 2015, but Kozaki revealed on Wednesday that the manga has been suspended due to various circumstances.

Previous Fire Emblem manga series include Maki Hakoda's adaptation of the first game, Fire Emblem: Dark Dragon and the Sword of Light, and Kōtarō Yamada's Fire Emblem: Hasha no Tsurugi (Fire Emblem: Sword of Champions), which adapts the sixth game in the series. Nea Fuyuki's Fire Emblem: Hikari o Tsugumono and Mitsuki O-sawa's Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War both adapt the series' fourth game.

The Fire Emblem Fates games launched in Japan in June 2015 and in North America in February 2016. The games have inspired several comic anthologies and four-panel manga.
