Granblue Fantasy TV Anime's 3rd Promo Video, Additional Cast Revealed

posted on by Kevin Yuan
Kazuhiro Yamaji joins cast for anime premiering in Japan on April 1

The official website for the television anime of the Granblue Fantasy smartphone role-playing game began streaming a new promotional video on Friday. The video highlights a scene where Gran first meets Lyria, and previews the anime's ending theme, "Sora no Parade" (Parade of the Sky) by HARUHI.

The website also announced this month that Kazuhiro Yamaji (The Boy and The Beast's Iozan, One Piece Film Gold's Gildo, Gintama.s Uranus) will join the cast as Eugen.

Previously announced cast members include:

The website also revealed a new key visual earlier this month featuring the series's characters.

The anime will premiere on Tokyo MX, BS11, Tochigi TV, and Gunma TV channels (and the AbemaTV service) on April 1 at 24:00 (effectively, April 2 at midnight Japan Time or April 1 at 11:00 a.m. EDT).

Aniplex of America will stream the series on the services Crunchyroll, Daisuki, and Anime Strike. Aniplex of America describes the story:

This is a world of the skies, where many islands drift in the sky. A boy named Gran and a talking winged lizard named Vyrn lived in Zinkenstill, an island which yields mysteries. One day, they come across a girl named Lyria. Lyria had escaped from the Erste Empire, a military government that is trying to rule over this world using powerful military prowess. In order to escape from the Empire, Gran and Lyria head out into the vast skies, holding the letter Gran's father left behind - which said, "I will be waiting at Estalucia, Island of Stars".

The Zankutinzeru-Hen (Zankutinzeru Arc) anime special already debuted on Tokyo MX and the ABEMA TV streaming service in Japan, and Aniplex of America streamed the special on Crunchyroll, Daisuki, and Anime Strike. The television series was also originally slated for January.

The anime adapts Cygames' Granblue Fantasy smartphone game. Yuuki Itoh (Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha ViVid) is directing the anime at A-1 Pictures with Ayako Kurata as anime series director. Cygames itself is credited for the scripts, and Toshifumi Akai (Kokoro Connect, Sound of the Sky) is designing the characters. Nobuo Uematsu (Final Fantasy games I-XI), Tsutomu Narita (Final Fantasy XIV composer and arranger), and Yasunori Nishiki are composing the music. BUMP OF CHICKEN performs the anime's theme song "GO."
