Mamoru Hosoda's Belle Film Opens in Singapore on November 18

Film opened in Japan on July 16, stayed at #1 for 3 weekends

Southeast Asian film distributor Purple Plan announced last week that it will screen Mamoru Hosoda and Studio Chizu's new BELLE (Ryū to Sobakasu no Hime, literally "The Dragon and the Freckled Princess") anime film in theaters in Singapore beginning on November 18.

Purple Plan describes the film:

Suzu Naito is an unremarkable teen crippled by childhood trauma. However in the virtual world of “U", Suzu is Belle - an exceptional singer-celebrity with fantastical beauty to match.

There is one existence within the virtual world that is even more mysterious than Belle. Known only as "The Beast," its monstrous strength and burning rage shakes the world of "U". When Belle's world collides with the Beast, how will their lives change?

BELLE opened in Japan on July 16, and topped the box office for three consecutive weekends. The film has IMAX screenings in 38 theaters throughout Japan. The film has earned a cumulative total of 6,346,134,800 yen (about US$57.22 million) as of October 3.

Hosoda (The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, Summer Wars, The Boy and The Beast, Mirai) directed and scripted the film, and is also credited for the original work. The film marks Studio Chizu's 10th anniversary. Taisei Iwasaki (Blood Blockade Battlefront, Dragon Pilot: Hisone and Masotan, The Naked Director) is the film's music director and composer.
