So what? He's not even the character designer for this.
Kubooka was also an animation director for classics like Gunbuster, Giant Robo, and Gundam 0080, and like the article mentioned he directed the awesome Gotham Knight short "Working Through Pain". So quit whining, it's not like Guts is going to turn into a frilly popstar in the middle of the movie. |

Which is a shame, because that'd be about the only thing that would get me to actually watch anything Berserk at all. |

According to ANN, he only did the character designs for Giant Robo. |

All of which he did after directing Berserk. When he directed Berserk he had virtually no experience as a director. |

I've been pretty much convinced I'm not watching it since the trailers came out for the animation (the CG, it hurts my eyes), but now that Takahiro Sakurai has been casted as the pretty boy bastard, I'm curious enough just for that because 1) I love that guy's voice and 2) he can totally pull off a pretty boy bastard and 3) I always imagined Griffith sounding like Takahiro Sakurai.
In summary: I approve of Takahiro Sakurai for Griffith. |

Well, it makes a bit of sense to use a newer cast. It means that the audience wont be as familiar AND, if this is a long project - (Ten years as it is rumored if they keep doing more movies) The actors wont sound old as holy hell.
I like the look of a lot of the shots. I think some of the CG looks odd because it has a cel-shading to it, but it seems very fluid and human characters look top notch. They're using a full range of facial motions for the characters. I'm not worried, and I'll probably set up a car pool to drive to Boston if this comes over here. |

My mistake. But my point is just because a guy did designs for one stupid show or game that doesn't mean it's going to affect everything else he does. |

Damn. I should've known that this'd happen. I was witlessly expressing amusement at the contrasts within his credits, not trying to suggest that he had directed those before he directed Berserk. I regret not making that clear. |

Guts not getting his original seiyu? Meh.

I can understand having doubts about Kubooka, but the segment he directed in Gotham Knight with Onda's character designs was the best one out of the bunch (not stylistically, but overall). Studio 4C is doing some weird fusion here where there's 2D faces mixed with 3D models and movement. At least that's what it seemed like. I'm willing to give it a chance. |

I have faith in Miura, personally. He has never let me down yet, not sure why he would now.

Lunar and IM@S artist Kubooka the director for 'Berserk?' Now this is news. Be curious to see how the designs interpret under his direction. Be really interesting to see how this turns out. Again another series we have a long time for.

I'm really looking forward to this. However the trailer had footage from the movie spliced with those animated shorts released earlier (which were based on images released ages ago) and what looks like test footage for story arcs set well after The Golden Age. So I'm not going to judge the film until a proper trailer is released.

I see no any sane reason to change voice actors either in Berserk or in Hunter X Hunter, besides greed and/or voluntarism.
Original voice actors were perfect in the roles, all of them. All of original voice actors are accessible. Project like Berserk animated film is nothing like hundreds-series-long commitment, so pregnancy of one of voice actresses is not excuse either. |

Well, that depends whether it ends with just the three movies. So far that's all that they've explicitly confirmed but the implication seemed to be originally that they want to go back and do a complete adaptation of the manga. |
