Tsubasa: RESERVoir CHRoNiCLE (TV)So-soReview #93 Date: 10 April 2009. Moves at what seems to be a snail's pace. It tries to be an action/fantasy and yet everything seems so calm and full of people staring at each other trying to perform some contrived form of romance. It would probably be better if they got another composer that didn't like to use insert songs so much. But even with all of that, it seemed like something I would like with the whole dimension traveling concept so I'll just check out the manga. NOTE: Seen 1st season.

Afro Samurai (TV)Good Review #95 Date: 10 May 2009. Spends about 3/5ths of its time doing the hack-and-slash bit, until it does a flashback (surprise!) to explain Afro's past. The fight in episode 4 is the real climax, and thus leaves the final battle to be rather unfufilling. Fights are pretty solid overall, if over the top when it comes to blood. Could use less Ninja Ninja, and Kuma is the real star.
Afro Samurai: Resurrection (movie)Decent Review #96 Date: 10 May 2009. As with every bad sequel, something contrived has to happen so that the hero has to step in and save the day. Though, this one still hold ups thanks to the production values. Still needs less Ninja Ninja, and Kuma is still the real star.
Akira (movie)Excellent Review # 15 Date: 18 March 2008. I watched Akira without reading the comments by people about how awesome it was, so I didn't have any expectations when I saw it. How smoothly the characters were animated and how detailed the backgrounds were was amazing. It definitely looks ahead of its time. It had a average setup, but it made up for it with how it told the story, Tetsuo's character development and all the action.
Appleseed (OAV)So-soReview #86 Date: 13 March 2009. It begins and ends, without any good setup for any of the plot points later on. I was expecting it to be a lot worse seeing as how it was airing on Ani-Monday, so it exceeded expectations.
Appleseed (movie)DecentReview #103 Date: 22 June 2009. Noteworthy improvement over the OVA. CGI is way too stiff, but overall it's a good enough action flick.
Appleseed: Ex Machina (movie)DecentSame as above.
Batman: Gotham Knight (movie)Good Review #44 Date: 02 October 2008. Visually, this one is amazing, even with all the different art styles being combined in one piece. But that also represents its biggest weakness. By having different narrative styles and have them in one movie, it lacks any coherence. "Working Through Pain" far outshines every other short story that's present here. Overall, it's good, but it could have been better had it meshed together better with the different storytelling styles.
Black Lagoon (TV)Excellent Review #78 Date: 16 January 2009. Great action show with an awesome soundtrack, except for the opening song. Even though it gets stuck in my head, I don't really like Engrish. Its slow pace does slightly hinder the enjoyment because it feels like it's taking too much time on just one event.
Black Lagoon: The Second Barrage (TV)ExcellentReview #106 Date: 15 July 2009. Changing its storytelling from being episodic to a series of story arcs really helped make it more effective overall. Need season 3 now.
Bleach the Movie: Memories of NobodyGood Review #114 Date: 27 October 2009. First half of this movie is marvelous. Sena really could have carried this movie throughout instead of being a damsel in distress for the second half of the movie; which turned into the usual hack-and-slash, "gotta get everybody's cameo in right before the movie ends" type of Shonen Jump movie.
Castle in the Sky (movie)Decent eview #115 Date: 27 October 2009. Maybe it's because I've really gotten jaded with Miyazaki's "humans are destroying the planet" message, but I didn't really like Castle in the Sky all that much. Miyazaki showed a lot more creativity and subtlety in Nausicaa and Princess Mononoke.
Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion (TV)Very good Review #51 Date: 27 October 2008. There's a lot of hype surrounding this one, but I went into it trying to ignore. It starts off trying to introduce too many things at once with Britannia, C.C. and Lelouch's goals, and then it goes into a "light of a high school kid" mode, which leads for some awkward pacing. It has some solid animation and good musical score, but what stands out about Code Geass is its over the top-ness. From a cat saving a person's life, to Lelouch's costume, it gets ridiculous at various points, but it's still entertaining.
Cowboy Bebop (TV)Very good Review #27 Date: 28 May 2008. The biggest positive in Cowboy Bebop is the soundtrack. It's definitely my #1 favorite in terms of anime soundtracks. On the other hand, at time it seems like it just going through the motions and it only really gets interesting towards the end. The self-contained episodes vary pretty widely in terms of quality.
Cowboy Bebop: The MovieGood Review #34 Date: 2 August 2008. If you've seen the TV series, then you can expect more of the same- great animation, great music, and an overall hint of ennui. I thought this movie dragged on for too long, but I think that it's because I can't take Cowboy Bebop in large amounts.
Coyote Ragtime Show (TV)Not really good Review #76 Date: 14 January 2009. The most interesting character in this series is the inspector; and with that in mind, it's not surprising that it goes downhill after the first episode- the only episode that features the inspector as its main character. The rest of the cast is pretty dull and they sure like to grin. Even so, it has some decent action, it's short, has some good animation here and there (though, it eventually goes down the drain, as does the plot). I'd probably like this one better if it didn't have such dense dialogue.
Dead Leaves (OAV)Very goodReview #57 Date: 10 November 2008. This one just goes full speed ahead without looking back. Plot? Don't need it. Just add a bunch of vulgarity and it'll make everything better. Well, not usually, but it works here.
Death Note (TV)DecentReview #35 Date: 5 August 2008. (Review edit again and again) After initially falling heads over heels for this show, I've grown to become rather indignant towards it. While providing some good thrills the first time around, some thinking afterwards in regards to how the plot advanced and how it presented itself have left me with a sour taste in my mouth. And please check out Carl Kimlinger's review of the 3rd volume (eps. 9-12) and the 1st box set (eps. 1-20).
Digimon Adventure (movie)Excellent Review #98 Date: 6 June 2009. Handles its humor and its climax with ease. Only complaint is that it's too short. Could have been a great first episode for the first series.
Digimon Adventure: Bokura no War Game (movie)Excellent Review #97 Date: 1 June 2009. I have to say that this movie definitely puts almost every other movie that's based upon a long running TV series to shame. This is my first experience with Mamoru Hosada and I must say this I'm really impressed. The comedy, action and even the cat in the background imitating Tai was just so well done. Normally movies like these tend to drag, but I didn't get that feeling from this one at all (shorter run time than usual also helps).
Dragon Ball Z Movie 10: Broly - Second ComingSo-so (dub & sub)Review # 7 Date: 18 March 2008. Tries to add in the original DB humor, but it doesn't work thanks to the two annoying young protagonists. Broly is still too lame, even though he loses a few pounds for the first half. Shorter run time than the first is appreciated.
Dragon Ball Z Movie 11: Bio-BrolyDecent (dub & sub)Review # 8 Date: 18 March 2008 (redone: 14 Sept 2009). I rewatched this one after hearing some praises for it, saying that it makes fun of Broly. With that in mind during the rewatch, I could see where they were coming from and I could appreciate it more. (upgraded from Weak to Decent)
Dragon Ball Z Movie 1: The DeadzoneSo-soReview #110 Date: 14 August 2009. Typical DBZ movie, but at least now I know what set the formula for the rest.
Dragon Ball Z Movie 7: Super Android 13Not really good Review #6 Date: 18 March 2008. Meh, this one was forgettable, as with most DBZ movies I guess. Goku does get hit in the privates, though. That's worth something.
Dragon Ball Z Movie 8: The Legendary Super SaiyanSo-so (dub & sub)Review # 5 Date: 18 March 2008. Rewatching this over a year since I originally wrote a comment here, I find it hard to forgive the logical fallacies that kept on popping up in this movie. Broly is too lame to be a good villain, but at least this gives enough Z action to fill your quota.
Dragon Ball Z: Fusion Reborn (movie 12)GoodReview # 11 Date: 18 March 2008. Even though Janemba in his 2nd form is just another Broly, he's definitely more interesting in terms of character design and his powers.
Dragon Ball: Yo! The Return of Son Goku and Friends!! (ONA)GoodReview #99 Date: 6 June 2009. It goes back to the Dragon Ball days, instead of the Z era, and in doing so makes for a fun, nostalgic ride and it doesn't overstay its welcome.
Dragonball: Evolution (live-action movie)BadReview #94 Date: 11 April 2009. Is this movie bad? Yes. Is it so bad that you want to bleach your eyes out when you finish it? No. It's just another badly made martial arts movie by Hollywood. What a surprise. In a strange way, it didn't live up to the hype.
Evangelion: 1.0 You Are [Not] Alone (movie)Very goodReview #111 Date: 14 August 2009. Dub is a big step-up compared to the TV series's and the movie itself is actually quite enjoyable even while sticking pretty closely to the first 6 eps. Really gets that sense of nostalgia going, while still being accessible to newcomers.
Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children (movie)Very goodReview #19 Date: 9 April 2008. This one was highly entertaining. The story itself was not that great, but the visuals, fight scenes, and the great musical score by Nobou Uematsu more than made up for it.
FLCL (OAV)ExcellentReview #37 Date: 5 August 2008. A pretty funny and random anime. Shows like this are hit-and-miss, because it's comedy and not everyone has the same taste in comedy. Comedy aside, this show has some great animation and soundtrack. (EDIT: 26 December 2008; changed rating from Very Good to Excellent) Well, now that I've finished it, all I have to add to the comments that I've already made is that this show actually has a lot more substance that at first glance, even with its random narrative style.
Fullmetal Alchemist (TV)ExcellentReview #22 Date: 2 May 2008. Just about everybody in recent anime fandom has heard of FMA. Even though I think that it's a bit overrated (I saw it before hearing all of the hype), it does derserve most of the praise it gets. Although, the manga is much better because it's more complete in just about every aspect of the story and the character development. The weak point of the FUNimation dub is that it leaves some things unexplained, especially during the last few episodes. So it would be best to see the last few episodes again with subs so that things become clearer.
Fullmetal Alchemist: Chibi Party (OAV)Very goodReview #24 Date: 13 May 2008. Very funny, which is what a chibi-style OVA is supposed to be. Too bad that it looks like FUNimation isn't going to license this.
Fullmetal Alchemist: Kids (OAV)Not really goodReview #26 Date: 24 May 2008. Meh, even most OVAs are pretty much pointless, this one takes the cake by not even proving to be entertaining.
Fullmetal Alchemist: Seven Homunculi VS State Alchemists (OAV)GoodReview #55 Date:6 November 2008. It's just a 10 minute short that ultimately proves inconsequential, but it has some good FMA action.
Fullmetal Alchemist: The Movie - Conqueror of ShamballaVery goodReview # 9 Date: 18 March 2008. We finally get a resolution to the ending of the TV series...well kind of. Even though I prefer the ending of the TV series compared to the ending in this one, the movie was great.
Ghost in the Shell (movie)Not really goodReview #33 Date: 18 July 2008. This movie was a major dissapointment after having watched both S.A.C. series. It was really boring, seeing as how there wasn't much action, and spent too much time showing off its visuals on stuff that had nothing to do with the plot. The music was nowhere near as good as the one in the S.A.C. series either. It didn't even show various members of Section 9 and the ending didn't set up itself up for a good climax.
Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence (movie)So-soReview #100 Date: 6 June 2009. I had avoided this because I just didn't like the first movie, but I ended up watching it anyways. At first, I was really intrigued in watching the relationship with Batou and Togusa, but then I realized that I was only interested because I had watched the SAC series beforehand and I wanted to see what those characters would do. As opposed to watching the Batou and Togusa that's in the movie continuity. After realizing that, I wasn't as into it. I wasn't impressed by the CGI- it just stood out too much at times. The dog was both likable and annoying. And there was just too much quoting. In the end, this movie almost made me like an entry in the GITS movie saga...almost.
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex (TV)MasterpieceReview #28 Date: 1 June 2008. An amazing storyline and visuals. The soundtrack is great as well, as it should be expected since it's made by Yoko Kanno. Even the self-contained episodes are interesting. The only downside that I can point out is that it gets too complicated at times.
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex 2nd GIG (TV)MasterpieceReview #29: 1 June 2008. It follows in the same footsteps as its predecesor in just about everything: visuals, storyline, complicated. But the self-contanied episodes, while still solid, aren't as good as the first seasons'.
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex: Solid State Society (movie)ExcellentReview # 10 Date: 18 March 2008. This one plays out just like an extended episode of the TV series, which isn't a bad thing at all.
(The) Girl Who Leapt Through Time (movie)ExcellentReview #112 Date: 14 August 2009. Hard for me to put into words what's so great about this movie. I'm usually hesitant when it comes to movies involving time travel, but after a while this one just captivated me.
Grave of the Fireflies (movie)Decent Review #88 Date: 28 March 2009. This movie is one of those that tries really hard to pull on your heart strings and almost succeeds, if it weren't for the constant mistakes that the older brother makes that ultimately leads them to their end result. 70th title added to Seen All.
Gunslinger Girl (TV)ExcellentReview #31 Date: 28 June 2008. Though lacking in having a central plot, this one more than makes up for it with its characters. While Gunslinger Girl can be labeled as Science Fiction, it sure doesn't seem like it because it focus on how the cyberization process affects these girls instead of the process itself. The ending was a bit dissapointing, but it was all right for a series that didn't have a central plot. But I wish it had been longer.
Gurren Lagann (TV)MasterpieceReview #113 Date: 14 August 2009. The most epic thing concerning Super Robots. I probably will be hesitant to watch any other entry in its genre because it just wouldn't hold a candle to it.
Howl's Moving Castle (movie)Very goodReview # 14 Date: 18 March 2008. The thing with Howl's Moving Castle, was that before I saw it, I expected it to be another Princess Mononoke. Thus, I set too high a bar for it. Even so, good from a Miyazaki standard, is still excellent by others.
Inuyasha (TV)GoodReview #25 Date: 13 May 2008. [comment withheld until further inquiry]
Inuyasha Meguri Au Mae no Unmei Koiuta (special)DecentReview #64 Date: 13 December 2008. Okay, this one was hardly necessary considering the amount of flashbacks and retelling past events that goes on in Inuyasha. But whatever.
Inuyasha the Movie 2: The Castle Beyond the Looking GlassDecentReview #20 Date: 13 April 2008.(EDIT: 13 December 2008. Wasn't really happy with the comments that I made, so I'm changing them.) The beginning of this movie would worked great for an ending to the TV series, around episode 50 or so. But aside from that, the rest of the movie is pretty much the same Inuyasha filler that you would expect, albeit with better animation and an art style that's more faithful with the manga, just like the rest of the Inuyasha movies.
InuYasha the Movie 3: Swords of an Honorable RulerGoodReview #38 Date: 5 August 2008. Best Inuyasha movie. It actually decides to develop its characters, instead of just staying stagnant like most movies based off TV series do.
Inuyasha the Movie 4: Fire on the Mystic Island

Air Master (TV)Not really good
Baki the Grappler (TV)DecentReview #77 Date: 16 January 2009. Um, I watched this one on the FUNimation Channel block, while it was still on the Colours TV. I don't really remember much, except that I really didn't like the character designs because everybody (and I mean everybody) seemed to have testorone coming from out of their eyeballs, but I was entertained by the fights.
Berserk (TV)Good
(The) Big O (TV)Not really goodReview #66 Date: 26 December 2008. It has a solid soundtrack, but I'm not sold on the art style. It takes itself way too seriously and the dialogue was not engaging at all. Meh. NOTE: Seen 4 episodes.
Blue Dragon (TV)WeakReview #45 Date: 03 October 2008. I was pretty bored with this one. Not that it was badly done, but it just didn't do anything for me. And while Toriyama may have been doing the character designs, that also means that he's just recycling some of the previous ones that he's used (see if you can spot Nappa in this one).
Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo (TV)AwfulReview # 23 Date: 02 May 2008. The question I ask myself when I watch this show is: why? Why?!
Case Closed (TV)So-soReview #79 Date: 16 January 2009. I've watched some of this on the FUNimation Channel block, when it was airing of Colours TV. It just seems like the type of series that would be best to watch once in a while when there's nothing else on. Its enormous length of (top with the fact that most of the episodes don't even deal with the main plot) and the very, very slim possibility that it'll be released completely in R1 also make want to avoid it.
Descendants of Darkness (TV)Not really goodReview #80 Date: 16 January 2009. Meh, the dub for this one was pretty bad. It was mostly uninteresting for me, even though it had a good soundtrack.
Dragon Ball Kai (TV)Not really good
Dragon Ball Z (TV)So-so (dub), Good (sub)Review #16 Date: 26 March 2008. Around this time last year, I was saying that DBZ was the best anime ever. Well, after watching plenty of other anime and putting more thought into what I considered to be the best, that is no longer the case. I grew up with DBZ, so it's a sentimental favorite, but I no longer have the same opinion of it that I once had. I still find it to be enjoyable, but there are a few issues that I have with it, which include: its slow pacing, its longevity( IMO, it should have all ended at the Frieza Saga), and the Dragon Balls( they kinda kill the tension, because you know that whoever dies can be revived) among other things. On another note, this is definitely one of those series where it's better to watch it in Japanese. EPISODES SEEN: A lot of episodes; can't say that I've seen every single, though.
Dragonaut - The Resonance (TV)BadReview #107 Date: 15 July 2009. Plays every sci-fi cliché in the book without being interesting about it. Half-hearted production values don't help. NOTE: Seen 3 episodes.
Elfen Lied (TV)Not really good
Excel Saga (TV)DecentReview #90 Date: 10 April 2009. I watched 5 episodes of this one. While I was able to tolerate the random, loud humor much more than I expected, I still didn't feel seeing this one all the way to the end. The headaches that I had at the end of each episode didn't help either.
Eyeshield 21 (TV)Not really goodReview#108 Date: 15 July 2009. Really bad adaptation of the manga. The comedy and character designs are a far cry of that in the original work. And even the dynamics that Murata uses to emphasize speed are thrown away for cheap slow-mo effects and stiff animation. NOTE: Seen 1 episode.
Fairy Tail (TV)Not really good
Fist of the North Star (TV)So-so"YOU WA SHOCK". Best opening ever. Old school is old school.
Flag (TV)Not really goodReview #61 Date:10 December 2008. This one has some great production values and will look great on your HDTV, but it lacks the engaging writing that said production values promise. It seems to want to be realistic, but yet it has mecha.... Not to mention that the mecha is CG, making it look very out of place. NOTE: Seen 4 episodes.
Hell Girl (TV)DecentReview #52 Date: 27 October 2008. From reading the comments on this series, I thought that I was going to loathe it right from the start. After watching a few episodes, I didn't exactly loathe it, it was just repetitive. Seriously, every episode is the same situation, with the same ending. It doesn't help that the new characters that are introduced in every episode are just dull. Good score, both in the BGM and opening and ending song, with some good art style to go along with it. But it just seem like it could have been better had there been more of an effort to make the situations unique. NOTE: Seen 4 episodes.
Hellsing (TV)So-soReview #38 Date: 5 August 2008. While this show is just overflowing with the "cool" factor and it has pretty neat soundtrack, it's dragged down by some horrible animation. Not to mention that there really isn't much of a plot in this series. NOTE: Seen 6 episodes.
Hikaru no Go (TV)Very good
Ikki Tousen (TV)Bad
Kiba (TV)Not really goodReview #67 Date: 26 December 2008. Okay, this show moved so slowly and did absolutely nothing to impress me in terms of just about everything related to the plot, that I just decided that there are other shows out there that I could be watching instead. I think the only reason that I watched 10 episodes of this one is because it's from Madhouse. Oh, well. NOTE: 10 episodes.
MÄR (TV)WeakReview #85 Date: 26 February 2009. I saw this one on TV and wasn't really impressed, not to mention that they aired out of order. Then when it went online only on Jetstream, I watched a few episodes and gave up. Certainly not one of the best Shonen has to offer.
Mushi-Shi (TV)GoodReview #42 Date: 26 September 2008. While Mushi-shi isn't really my type of show, I can appreciate its storytelling merits along with the artistry. If you want a different, episodic type of anime that's just relaxing and very different from the norm then you might want to check this one out. NOTE: Seen 5 episodes.
Negima! (TV)Not really goodReview #91 Date: 10 April 2009. I saw Negima! on the FUNimation Channel back when it still had a block on CoLours TV. It was pretty funny sometimes and it had a good soundtrack. But the animation was really weak, so I just decided to stick to the manga instead.
Now and Then, Here and There (TV)WeakReview #43 Date: 26 September 2008. Hmmm, this series is pretty much hailed as either brilliant/ a masterpiece by most people. I am not one of them. It just seemed to be trying to hard to be emotionally hard-hitting. It just rubbed me off the wrong way really fast. The dub is also pretty mediocre, but I doubt that if it had a better dub or if I had watched it in Japanese that I would change my opinion. NOTE: Seen 6 episodes.
(The) Prince of Tennis (TV)WeakReview #18 Date: 9 April 2008. I saw the episodes that aired on Toonami, and it was pretty boring. The only thing that was exciting about it was the theme song, and it wasn't even in the original. Yes, the theme song that Viz Media did themselves was more entertaining than the actual show. I guess that was the reason I kept on watching, just so I could hear the theme song. The only thing that was midly entertaining in the actual show was Ryoma's father. The production values of the show itself are not that great. The music almost put me to sleep and it kept repeating the same frames of animation that it showed in the first episode.
Ragnarok The Animation (TV)BadReview #109 Date: 15 July 2009. Waste of time and a good opening song that is the highlight of the whole thing. NOTE: Seen 1 episode.
Rave Master (TV)WeakReview #92 Date: 10 April 2009. It's just like any other Saturday morning cartoon. The characters were likable, but one-dimensional. The dialogue was obviously Americanized, but I doubt that the Japanese dialogue would be any better. Just didn't seem to be worth the time to see if it would get better. But I also doubt that it would anyways. NOTE: Seen 2 episodes.
Samurai Deeper Kyo (TV)WeakReview # 17 Date: 5 April 2008. This one was incredibly cheesy and the production values were pretty mediocre.
School Days (TV)
Sgt. Frog (TV)Weak
Shuffle! (TV)Not really good
Speed Grapher (TV)So-soReview #47 Date: 03 October 2008. Geez, even though this one had horrible animation throughout and messed up storyline I didn't even want to understand in the first place, I managed to watch most of it. The main reason that I kept on watching was to see where Saiga and Kagura's relationship would go.The second ending song is a favorite, though. Nice artwork to go along with it too. In fact, the promotional artwork for this series is top-notch. If only the actual visuals in the show were anywhere near that good. NOTE: Seen 21 episodes.
Tokko (TV)BadReview $41 Date: 5 August 2008. This series took whatever decent concept it came up with and just destroyed it with bad animation, horribly choreographed fights, bad writing and uninteresting characters. The opening song is good, though.
