I was checking out Mezzo Forte in the Encyclopaedia and clicked on the find similar anime based on genres & themes but it only listed anime which have "erotica" as one of their genre tags. This severely restricts the usefulness of the search. I'm not particularly interested in hentai but, given that Mezzo Forte did have a general release with the sex scenes removed, the encyclopaedia should allow people to find other, similar titles that aren't hentai.
I imagine the search engine is designed that way so that hentai doesn't turn up in other searches. (Perhaps it should?) |

This isn't due to the "erotica" tag, but due to the "pornography" objectionable content rating. It used to be tied to the erotica tag, but Dan changed it (see this topic). The reason you see only other anime with erotica as a theme is because it is showing other anime classified as pornography, and almost all of them have the erotica theme.
Basically, if you search for genres and themes from a page for an anime classified as pornography it only shows you other anime classified as pornography, while if you search from a page for an anime not classified as pornography it only shows you other anime not classified as pornography. If you want to find non-hentai titles with the same genres and themes as a hentai title, you should remember all of the genres/themes and just manually check them on the genre search page. That way you can specify to search for non-pornography titles. |

Thanks for that, Calathan. I've been having a lot of fun exploring the search functions within the encyclopaedia.
