I am grinning with delight watching this. Delicious, delicious Fujoshi fanservice.
And i'm gonna call it: By the end of the series, Nagisa and Gou will become a couple!

She's certainly shaping up to be someone's straight option.

So I am going to the be the odd man out here and say that the first episode of Free didn't hook me completely. It looked wonderful and it sounded great like KyoAni usually does but there was something about it that I can't put my finger out about why I didn't hugely enjoy the first episode. It has nothing to do with being full of good looking guys, I can watch shows that have a majority of the cast be good looking dudes and enjoy it. For example Code;Breaker which had a lot of good looking males which I liked.
I am going to give it another episode to see if I want to watch more of it, but from the way it stands now I will probably drop it.

This anime got me fired up right from the start.
The opening was really nice ^^
Apron over a swimsuit ^///^
Seems like it's an easygoing anime.
The pace kinda reminds me of Sakamichi no Apollon..
The ED was unusual for what you would expect in a swimming anime, but cool.
Will be watching this one!

Ok, that's the last series I would have ever expected to see anyone compare this to in any way.

I watched the first episode yesterday a few hours after it came out. So far, it's got what I was hoping for: pretty animation and lots of fanservice. I don't care much about the story or characters yet but it's currently enjoyable enough to just turn my brain off and watch. Also that ED, between the hilarious fanservice and catchy song, is downright unskippable.
I find Rin's pointy-teeth super distracting though.

My first impression: "What if KyoAni had made K-on, had the girls strip, replaced cake with fish and did I mention, turned all the girls into boys...."
It wasn't bad, it just wasn't very fresh or exciting.

I would never have considered watching this if it wasn't for the hype, making me curious, since I am neither interested in watching sports (anime or else), nor do I find guys to be particularly hot looking in bathing caps (shudder). Sword fight induced clothing damage, sure thing, but swimming? Hm.
But it was fun. It didn't feel like they were objectifying the guys to a point where it might be offending anyone (yet), and it never took itself too seriously, either. That little glimmer anytime the word "pool" was mentioned to Haruka, the constant "threat" of someone tearing their clothes off at any given moment, the in-show commentary about Haruka wearing an apron over his bathing slip, Rin's introduction, the gorgeous looking scenes in the water - it's enough to see me coming back next week, and looking forward to seeing the fifth guy being introduced.

Same here, really irritating, especially since he is likely to become my favorite character.

good start to the show. Not completely sold yet, but there's still time.

I pretty much agree with this. The whole Momiji/Honey thing just doesn't work when the kid actually looks like he's 16/17. It just makes him seem kind of annoyingly immature. He could grow on me but I am kind of doubting it right now.

Episode 2
Gou! Kou! Gou! Kou! Gou! Kou! Kou! Gou!
Oh God, that scene was funny.
Anyways, nice to see a lot of Gou this episode! Oh and she behaving like a fan girl . The swim competition was a bit short and episode seemed quite relaxing. I'll look forward next time to see that guy with the glasses bring to some intensity.

Heh, Kou is obviously meant to respresent the [female] audience
That said, Kou is also appealing to people like myself who like anime full of cute girls. In this case, quality does trump quantity. I'm happy to see that she'll actually have a role in the show.
The guys are pretty fun too. Who knew Haruka was such a great artist?

Seems like none of them pick up that their teacher was actually a swimsuit model. Well in that regard, digging up the past dirt on a new teacher to force them to be their coach, sounds kind of familiar.
Also Kou got bugs bunnied, and said her joy out loud.

I'm really liking this "exploratory" show by KyoAni. Unlike their usual character designs, the ones here look very mature, including Gou who is still amazingly cute. Maybe even cuter than the design's I'm used to seeing; I've had my fill of loli HS girls. I think the padded shoulders of their school uniform blazers give them a bit more of a composed adult appearance than usual too.

Kou was totally LOL when seeing Haru in swimsuit ^^
I was kinda expecting the swim club to happen and I was right.
It was the pretty much obvious next step.
Looks like Rin is nostalgic about the childhood days with his friends.
I like this anime 'cause it had nice pace and strong motivation.
