V's website gets a frontpage mention on ANN now? Welp, Eva fandom's screwed. At least people who share his "sensibilities" will gravitate towards ReVa instead of polluting EvaGeeks.

In before this post is used as proof that Eva fans are elitist jerks and that you need to join ReVa to stomp out this sort of thing. Rather, in before an *edited version* is used, because you're not allowed to mention other Eva websites like EvaGeeks on ReVa. Probably because V was banned from EvaGeeks for reasons I'm not going to get into.

9/14/2010 EDIT: Wow, this post does look pretty smug and unnecessarily abrasive out of context. Possibly in context too. In the future I should remember that if I have doubts about whether I should say something I probably shouldn't say it.

I'm flabbergasted that the "ReVolution" is on the front page on ANN. Seriously, he makes the interview with a V mask on and his rantings are pretty well known on this board.

But, as several of the official reviews noted, its very strange that what should be a flagship release had no English ADR director commentary or cast interviews.
Funny that you mention this, since you say the commentary track that was done by Manga as being uninformed drivel. Wonder why you want more of the same....

I can't say I really care for Tiffany Grant as Asuka anymore. The ADV dub for Evangelion, much like most ADV dubs period, doesn't really hold up very well. Though it would probably be really weird hearing somebody else in the role after all this time, so Funimation might as well cast her in the role again, anyway.

At least Spike Spencer's Shinji has improved a little, even though it's still a little too exaggerated.

Yes! YES!!!

I haven't heard of Tiffany ever since I've heard her play Nami's sister in One Piece!!!

This is EXCELLENT news! That interview is something I MUST see! Not only to hear her thoughts, but to see which new dubs she'll be in!!!
As for her playing Asuka again... do you even have to ASK!?!?! Very Happy

Er, this is in the Press Releases sidebar. It's not like there was an actual news item about it.

Those are just reprinted press releases that get sent to us.

Well, first I would like to say that I had a terrible sinus infection as well as laryngitis at I-Con, so that's why my voice sounds so bad.

I'd also like to clarify a couple points.

1) I only did an interview for about 15 minutes while I ate my lunch (as you can see!) because that was all the available time I had. The rest of the footage (which, to be fair, the interviewer does explain) was taken during panels where he is asking me questions.

2) He mentions [in text on his site] that I had lunch with basically the whole Japanese cast of Eva at Puroland [Hello Kitty theme park]. Not true. The only Eva people there were Yuko, Matt and myself. We were joined by a Japanese friend (who helped with translation) and Yuko's four-year-old [ADORABLE!] daughter. The photo shown on his site is from 2008's Kawaii-Con, not the trip to Puroland.

3) I have done many interviews over the years with lots of people for their websites, several of which have been Eva-related. The fact that I am very willing to grant interviews to fans does not mean I am endorsing anyone's site.

4) "V" never introduced himself to me by name nor ever without his mask. I understand he may have some reasons for this but, for the record, if anyone else wants to interview me in the future, it will be without a disguise. And I don't need to inspect your passport, but an introduction like, "Hi, I'm Fred, a college student from New Jersey. Could I interview you for my site?" would be just dandy.

Yours in anime,
Tiffany Grant

Ms. Grant is correct on all counts. Particularly, we never asked for preferential treatment or endorsement, nor did she give any.

She's given lots of interviews over the years.

...I'm sorry, I misworded the Puroland description in the writeup, it didn't involve the rest of the cast, and I've now reworded that part on the news post...

The V costume thing is a shock value thing to grab people's attention, the whole Batman "people need dramatic examples to shock them out of apathy" routine...but there will probably come a time when I have to make a choice between Eva and the V routine, and Eva will win. Sometimes I forget that cast & crew members have to deal with the true crazies and stalkers from the con scene, and you kind of want to know who they are...

Wait, you're telling me there's no quality control for Press Releases? Anyone can send in anime-related news and it gets added?

THAT'S AWESOME!

But really, statements like this one...

The phrase "incompetent, elitist weirdos who currently run Eva fandom" is almost certainly a direct jab at Reichu, without whom Occidental Evangelion fans would be completely in the dark about, say, the First Ancestral Race, because there would be no anywhere-near-complete translations of the Classified Information from Neon Genesis Evangelions 2, and even if there were we would have no translations of the 1993 Proposal to prove it wasn't just made up for the PS2 game.

Somehow I knew you'd say that.

I don't really know why this one got posted, but the guy who posts the press releases (of which we get dozens every day and yes there is a filter) obviously thought it was interesting.

Feel free to continue being a big drama queen about it, though. I didn't know Eva fanboy internet slapfights had gotten so hilariously complicated.

I apologize if my submission was not fit, Zac; I assumed that the press guy would heavily edit it if he didn't like it.

I think they're annoyed on general principle, that I run a new, rival Evangelion fansite that doesn't like the older fansites. Well, lots of shows have different fansites.

Yes, I am not satisfied with the current state of things, thats why I spent the considerable time, resources, and effort into putting together a fansite. So we (everyone from AS) can enjoy Eva on my new forums, which (I like to think) are not only spiffy, but well moderated.

We will refrain from childish namecalling on the ANN boards.

Putting that aside: does anyone have an industry or Evangelion-related questions, based on things discussed in the videos?

Zac: should FUNimation be bright-eyed-and-bushy-tailed optimistic about getting the Eva 2.22 license? They seem to think they'll have it by Christmas 2010. But rumor mill has it that it will be the most expensive license in R1 history, because Gainax has become drunk on power.

is there any chance, however slim, of some sort of End of Eva/Manga Entertainment fiasco? simply based on how flippant the Gainax negotiators can be.

Is it Gainax that handles the license, or Studio Khara/Klockworx?

I suppose that would be my question to ask.
