Released on August 25, CAPCOM's Monster Hunter Portable 3rd HD Ver. PlayStation 3 game sold 287,829 copies in its first four official days of sale. This total puts the game at the number one spot on Media Create's top 20 list of best-selling consumer video games for the week of August 22 to August 28. The updated PlayStation 3 port of a PSP game features full high-definition graphics, 3D support, shared save data with the PSP version, and online play options. The original edition of the Sony PSP "hunting action" game shipped in Japan on December 1, 2010. That earlier edition sold 2,580,258 copies in less than two weeks after it became available, also earning it the top position on the same weekly sales list almost a year ago.
Also shipped on August 25 in Japan, PSP games Black Rock Shooter THE GAME and Kidō Senshi Gundam: Shin Gihren no Yabō (Mobile Suit Gundam: New Gihren's Ambition) took the second and third places on the weekly chart. Selling less than half the copies of Monster Hunter Portable 3rd HD Ver., Black Rock Shooter THE GAME sold 105,277 copies, and Kidō Senshi Gundam: Shin Gihren no Yabō sold 75,611 copies by August 28.
