Toyota Expands Its Gundam Line With New Char, Zaku Models

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

Toyota's venture with the fictional Gundam company Zeonic has lasted three years and produced Char versions of the MS-186H-CA Auris hatchback, first as a concept car and then as a consumer model in 2013.

Toyota's Japan marketing division is expanding on the idea with Char Exclusive Auris II concept car based on new Auris model Toyota released in April and a Zaku model. Both cars were revealed over the weekend. The char model made its debut at the Mori Arts Museum in Roppongi Hills. The unveiling included an appearance by Amuro Ray voice actor Tohru Furuya. Furuya jokes that he'd like to see a "White Amuro Exclusive Auris."

Toyota is currently looking into whether either model will get a commercial release.

Starting on July 21, the MEGAWEB Toyota Universal car theme park in Odaiba will add two Zeonic Toyotas to its line-up.

The Mori Arts Museum is also holding its "Mobile Suit Gundam Exhibition: The Art of Gundam" until September 27. The exhibit includes 1,000 production materials, including those from Gundam: The Origin original video anime and a special video screening.
