News Manga Tops 2004 Graphic Novel Sales

According to Bookscan, which tracks book sales at book stores (but not comic book and specialty shops), the top selling graphic novels of 2004 were Viz's Rurouni Kenshin #1 and Tokyopop's Fruits Basket #1. The top earning manga release of 2004 was Dark Horse's Trigun #2, which sold less copies that Fruits Basket or Rurouni Kenshin, but sold at a higher, $14.95 price point.
