"New parallel history" of Nanoha, Fate's first story to open this spring

The 100th issue (on sale on July 30) of Gakken's Magami Magazine will announce that a Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha film, Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha The MOVIE 1st, will open in Japan this spring. The movie will retell the first story of Nanoha Takamachi, an ordinary third-grade girl who becomes a magical girl in search of Jewel Seeds from another world, and Fate Testarossa, another magical girl competing for the Jewel Seeds. Franchise creator Masaki Tsuzuki emphasized that the movie is not necessarily the "true history" of the story, but a "new parallel history."

Geneon Entertainment had licensed the first television series and the Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha A's sequel in the franchise, but had then ceased in-house distribution of all of its anime titles. Subtitling work on the these two Nanoha series continued, and Funimation announced at Anime Expo that it had sub-licensed the manufacturing and distribution of DVDs for at least the first series. Digital Manga Publishing is publishing Tsuzuki and Kōji Hasegawa's Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha StrikerS manga spinoff.
