posted on 2009-04-10 22:05 EDT
Washington state's Sakura-Con announced on Wednesday evening that Guest of Honor Koichi Ohata will not be able to attend the event this weekend as planned. According to the convention, the prolific mechanical designer and director is undergoing emergency surgery.
Ohata designed the title robot in Aim for the Top! Gunbuster and worked on Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack, The Super Dimension Fortress Macross II: Lovers, Again, and Borgman. He also created M.D. Geist and directed Ikki-Tousen: Dragon Destiny, Burst Angel, Genocyber, Blue Gender: The Warrior, You're Under Arrest: Full Throttle, and various other anime titles.
