Kyo no Gononi Manga Gets Original Anime DVD Green-Lit (Updated)

posted on by Egan Loo
New adaptation of Coharu Sakuraba's school manga to ship this fall

The Japanese publisher Kodansha launched a new website this month to announce that an original animation DVD adaptation of Coharu Sakuraba's Kyo no Gononi (Kyō no 5 no 2 or Today in Class 5-2) manga has been green-lit for release this fall. The "light ecchi" story centers around fifth grader Ryōta Satō, his childhood friend Chika Koizumi, and the rest of their school's Class 5-2. The new anime will ship with limited initial editions of the manga.

The anime will share much of the same cast and staff as last year's television anime adaptation, such as character voices Yū Kobayashi and Asami Shimoda as Ryōta and Chika, respectively. Satomi Akesaka (Yūki), Mako (Kazumi), Kana Asumi (Natsumi), Youko Honda (Megumi), Megumi Yamato (Kōji), and Ayahi Takagaki (Tsubasa) also reprise their respective roles. Television series director Tsuyoshi Nagasawa, animation producer Takashi Noto, scriptwriter Takamitsu Kouno, character designer Sunao Chikaoka, music composer Kei Haneoka, and the XEBEC animation studio are returning for the DVD project.

According to a blog entry by Akesaka, the project was announced at a recent Starchild Festival event. The theme song will be a new track called "Kitakaze."

Update: More production information added.
