Funimation Licenses Vandread Integral, Turbulence OVAs

Feature-length summaries of Vandread sci-fi television anime's two stages

Funimation Assistant Brand Manager Justin Rojas confirmed in an April 22 comment on his company's official blog that the anime distributor has the North American licenses for the Vandread Integral and Vandread Turbulence OVAs. Vandread Integral (Vandread Taidouhen) summarizes the first Vandread science-fiction television anime series into a 75-minute video with some new animation. Similarly, Vandread Turbulence (Vandread Gekitouhen) summarizes the Vandread: The Second Stage follow-up series into a 90-minute video. However, Rojas added that he does not "have any information on how and when [Integral and Turbulence] will be released."

Funimation announced on Christmas Eve last year that it had licensed the Vandread anime series from GDH for a 2009 release. (GDH was the corporate parent of the Gonzo anime studio. GDH has since absorbed its Gonzo subsidiary and adopted the Gonzo brand name for itself.). Another distributor, Geneon Entertainment (USA) Inc., had released the Vandread anime series in North America in 2002 when it was still known as Pioneer Entertainment. However, Geneon Entertainment ceased in-house distribution of its own titles in September 2007. Geneon's Vandread releases did not include Vandread Integral or Vandread Turbulence.
