August 1 film by The Girl Who Leapt Through Time's director, writer, designer

The YouTube website has begun streaming the first five minutes from Summer Wars, the next anime film from Mamoru Hosoda (Digimon movies, Superflat Monogram) after his award-winning The Girl Who Leapt Through Time (Toki o Kakeru Shōjo or TokiKake). The light-hearted "action entertainment" story revolves around a modern-day family on a midsummer adventure.

The film's 111-second trailer, the previous one-minute teaser trailer, and television commercials are still available from the Kadokawa Anime Channel on the YouTube website. The movie's first five minutes were already posted on the Yahoo! Movies website in Japan earlier this week, but many viewers outside Japan had issues streaming from that website. The project reunites many of The Girl Who Leapt Through Time's staffers, including scriptwriter Satoko Okudera (Angel, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, Miyori no Mori) and character designer Yoshiyuki Sadamoto (Evangelion, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, FLCL). The Summer Wars film will open in Japan on August 1.
