posted on by Egan Loo
Anime based on manga from Blue Drop's Akihito Yoshitomi references Osamu Tezuka's Black Jack manga

The North American entertainment label Maiden Japan announced on Monday that it licensed the 13-episode anime series Ray.

Ray is based on a manga from Akihito Yoshitomi (Blue Drop, Eat-Man). The series was directed by Naohito Takahashi (Berserk, Steel Angel Kurumi, To Heart) and produced by Oriental Light and Magic. Ray, which references Osamu Tezuka's Black Jack series, revolves around a woman named Ray Kasugano, who was saved by Black Jack when she had lost her eyes. As an adult, Ray has become a surgeon capable of performing operations others cannot due to the special artificial eyes she received as replacements.

Maiden Japan and Section23 Films will release the anime with English subtitles on DVD and in digital formats.

Update: More background information added.
