2 titles' digital versions to catch up to print counterparts by December

The North American manga publisher Viz Media announced on Monday that it will accelerate the digital releases of both the Bleach and One Piece manga series to catch up with their print counterparts. Under the plan, Viz will release one complete manga volume of both Bleach and One Piece every Monday onto the VizManga.com's digital service and on the Viz Manga app.

Volume 23 of Tite Kubo's Bleach and volume 43 of Eiichiro Oda's One Piece were released onto those digital services this past Monday. If plans continue as scheduled, the digital and print versions of the two titles will be on the same schedule by December. (The print versions of Bleach volume 37 and One Piece volume 59 are slated for that month.)

This accelerated release schedule resembles a similar online release plan for Masashi Kishimoto's Naruto manga series. Viz released one new digital volume of Naruto every day for seven days until the publisher was able to release Naruto volume 52 both in print and online on the same day.

Viz Media will also release the fourth volume of House of Five Leaves on September 19 — the day before the volume officially ships in print. In addition to Bleach, One Piece, and House of Five Leaves, the following books will also debut on VizManga.com and the Viz Manga app between this week and the end of the month:

September 12

September 19

September 26

The Viz Manga app is now available for the Apple iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch devices, while the VizManga.com service also runs on personal computers and smartphones with Android OS.
