Latest Yu-Gi-Oh! series slated for June 2

The Canadian television channel YTV announced on its forums on Wednesday that it will begin airing Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexal in June 2. The show will take the time slot of Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's in YTV's afternoon anime lineup.

Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexal premiered last year in Japan. The near-future story revolves around Yūma Tukumo, a 13-year-old rookie duelist, and Astral, the mysterious lifeform from a parallel world who suddenly appears before Yūma. A manga version is running in Shueisha's V Jump magazine, and Viz Media will begin releasing the manga next month.

YTV's launch of Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexal take place weeks before 4Kids will hold its planned sale of rights to the series. KidsCo, an affiliate of Saban, is the first bidder considered; Saban Brands has a working relationship with YTV's parent company, Corus.

Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexal has been airing on the CW4Kids Toonzai programming block in the United States since October.
