Senran Kagura's Core Games Staying With 3DS or Its Successor

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

Game developer Marvelous AQL's producer Kenichirō Takaki revealed in an interview with Siliconera that the Senran Kagura core series will remain with the Nintendo 3DS or its hypothetical successor. However, he also left the door open for more spinoffs on other game systems.

“We would like to continue the main series on the Nintendo 3DS or if there is a successor to the 3DS, Kagura will continue there,” Takaki said. “But, we definitely want a lot of users to play and experience the game so you can count on different forms of the game coming out.”

Takaki added that there are no plans now to bring the Kagura series to Steam, although another title, Half-Minute Hero: Super Mega Neo Climax Ultimate Boy, is currently available on the platform.

The Senran Kagura series premiered for Nintendo 3DS in 2011 and its sequel, Senran Kagura Burst -Guren no Shōjotachi- , was released in Japan in August. The upcoming spinoff Senran Kagura Shinovi Versus -Shōjo-tachi no Shōmei- is scheduled for a PlayStation Vita release on February 28.

An anime adaptation of the side-scrolling beat-em-up series is in the works for a television premiere next year. Takashi Watanabe (Shakugan no Shana, Slayers) is directing the series at the Artland animation studio.
