Luffy's Mayumi Tanaka, Usopp's Kappei Yamaguchi give thoughts on upcoming film

New commercials, including a one-minute one, began airing for the television anime special One Piece Episode of Luffy: Hand Island no Bōken (One Piece Episode of Luffy: The Hand Island Adventure) and this year's One Piece Film Z. Both will debut in Japan on Saturday.

The brand-new story of the special follows an incident during the New World arc with the pirate captain Shanks, the return of the marines Coby and Helmeppo, and a place called "Cannon Town" with a craftsman father and his marine son. The special will also have a flashback scene to the story in the first chapter of the manga, but with new animation.

In addition, the Japanese film website Cinema Today began streaming two videos messages from voice actress Mayumi Tanaka (Luffy) and Kappei Yamaguchi (Usopp) about the film on Friday.

Mayumi Tanaka (Monkey D. Luffy)

Tanaka said that the theme of the movie is the clashing of ideals, and noted that both Luffy and Z are very cool in the film. Tanaka ended her message by proclaiming in Luffy's voice that everyone should go watch the movie in theaters, and they will be excited for what they see. Tanaka then put up her fist and yelled, "You all are my friends!"

Kappei Yamaguchi (Usopp)

Kappei also said that the movie is very cool and manly, and also is the first full-length One Piece movie since One Piece: Strong World, which was released in Japan three years ago. Kappei also added that One Piece Film Z is the first film after the two-year time jump in the manga and anime and thus will be the first film set in the New World arc. Kappei added that he hopes everyone will be able to see the film soon, and he hopes that everyone is looking forward to it.

Attendees of the movie will receive an 84-page “Volume 1,000” of One Piece, which will contain designs and an exclusive One Piece Treasure World card.

Shueisha's Shonen Jump magazine announced Avril Lavigne's participation in the movie in October. She will perform the two theme songs for the movie, and they are covers of Nickelback and Joan Jett songs.
