Say Hello to Black Jack's Sato Earns 100 Million Yen Since Allowing Secondary Copyright Use

posted on by Egan Loo

Manga author Shuho Sato reported on Saturday that he earned over 1 hundred million yen (about US$1.1 million) in electronic book sales in the four and a half months since September 15. On that day, he began allowing free secondary use — commercial and non-commercial — of his manga Say Hello to Black Jack.

Sato now allows people to use the original Say Hello to Black Jack work to create editions in foreign languages, films, applications, anime, and more without any royalty payments.
