Santa Inoue's Tokyo Tribes Manga Gets Live-Action Film

Suicide Club/Himizu's Shion Sono to host open auditions via YouTube

Sono is going to hold open auditions on <cite class="e company"><a href="/encyclopedia/company.php?id=8245">YouTube</a></cite> for the film's cast. <p>Sono has <a href="https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCpsC0w-_Gq3gVLfqUjRwnVQ/videos" target="_blank">opened</a> a <cite class="e company">YouTube</cite> channel for the film, and he and Inoue have both recorded video messages to give their comments on the upcoming project. The channel is also streaming a video describing how to submit an audition video for the film, and a video that demonstrates two sample auditions. In their video, those auditioning must introduce themselves, describe and demonstrate a special skill, act out a scene that includes their favorite character from the series, and give a message to the director. Those chosen from the <cite class="e company">YouTube</cite> auditions will undergo further auditions in person. Filming will begin this summer.<p>The original<cite class="e anime">!<i> manga</i></cite> takes place in the near future in Tokyo where rival street gangs fight each other for turf. When the rivalry between two of the gangs gets more personal, the fighting turns into an all-out war.<p><cite class="e company"><a href="/encyclopedia/company.php?id=11">Tokyopop</a></cite> published six of 12 volumes of the <cite><cite class="e anime">Tokyo Tribe 2</cite></cite><cite class="e anime">!<i> manga</i></cite> (under the name <cite class="e anime">Tokyo Tribes</cite>) in North America. <cite class="e company"><a href="/encyclopedia/company.php?id=48">Madhouse</a></cite> <a href="/news/2006-01-30/tokyo-tribe-2-anime-announced">adapted</a> the same<cite class="e anime">!<i> manga</i></cite> series into the 13-episode <cite class="e anime"><a href="/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=6235">Tokyo Tribe 2<i> TV</i></a></cite> anime series in 2006. <cite class="e company"><a href="/encyclopedia/company.php?id=2451">Tokyo Shock</a></cite> released the live-action film adaptation of Inoue's <cite class="e anime"><a href="/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=6501">The Neighbor No. Thirteen</a></cite><cite class="e anime">!<i> manga</i></cite> on DVD.<p>Inoue <a href="/news/2012-01-24/santa-inoue-tokyo-tribe-3-manga-ends">ended</a> his <cite><cite class="e anime"><a href="/encyclopedia/manga.php?id=19128">Tokyo Tribe 3</a></cite></cite> sequel<cite class="e anime">!<i> manga</i></cite> last March and his <i><cite class="e anime"><a href="/encyclopedia/manga.php?id=19127">Dan Da Barbarian</a></cite></i> <a href="/news/2012-02-29/tokyo-tribes-inoue-ends-dan-da-barbarian-manga">manga</a> last April.
