Wolf Children to Screen at Newport Beach Film Festival

posted on by Karen Ressler
Screening in Costa Mesa, California on April 27

The 2013 Newport Beach Film Festival in California will screen Mamoru Hosoda's Wolf Children film at the Triangle Square theater in Costa Mesa on April 27 at 12:15 p.m. Tickets are currently on sale for US$14.00.

As previously reported, the film will also screen this month in Dallas as part of the Dallas International Film Festival on April 8 and April 13, in San Diego as part of the San Diego Asian Film Festival Spring Showcase on April 20 and 21, and in Santa Monica's Aero Theatre on April 27.

Wolf Children is the newest film directed by Mamoru Hosoda, who gained international fame with The Girl Who Leapt Through Time and Summer Wars. Funimation licensed Wolf Children and plans to release it this year in theaters and on home video. The film's story covers 13 years and begins with a 19-year-old college student named Hana who encounters and falls in "fairy tale-like" love with a "wolf man." After marrying the wolf man, Hana gives birth and raises two wolf children — an older sister named Yuki ("snow") who was born on a snowy day, and a younger brother named Ame ("rain") who was born on a rainy day. When the wolf man suddenly dies, Hana decides to move to a rural town far removed from the city.

The film premiered in the U.S. at the New York International Children's Film Festival last month and won an Audience Award.
