On Tuesday, the Anime Mirai project announced the four studios that will each receive 38 million yen (about US$370,000) from the "Young Animator Training Project" to make half-hour anime. Just like the last three years, the Japan Animation Creators Association (JAniCA) received money from the Japanese government's Agency for Cultural Affairs, and it will distribute most of those funds to studios who will train young animators on-the-job this year.

15 production companies submitted 17 proposal bids for the funds. The following projects were selected on May 15:

Ultra Super Pictures
Director: Yasuhiro Yoshiura (Kimi no Iru Machi, Eve no Jikan, Patema Inverted)
Producer: Ryousuke Inagaki
Title: "Arumoni" (Harmonie)

A-1 Pictures
Director: Ayumu Watanabe (Space Brothers, Mysterious Girlfriend X, Danchi Tomoo)
Producer: Makoto Sotozaki
Title: "Ōkii Ichinensei to Chiisana Ninensei" (The Big First-Year Student and the Small Second-Year Student)

Shinei Animation
Director: Kazuaki Imai (Doraemon episode director, Valkyria Chronicles unit director)
Producer: Maiko Okada
Title: "Paroru to Miraijima" (Paroru and the Future Island, tentative title)

Studio 4°C
Director: Naoyuki Onda (character designs on Ai no Kusabi, Berserk: The Golden Age Arc I - The Egg of the King, Ergo Proxy, Gantz)
Producer: Eiko Tanaka
Title: "Kaze no Sorashita"

One of the reasons that the Agency for Cultural Affairs is supporting this initiative is the concern that more of the Japanese animation process is being outsourced overseas — thus leading to a decline in opportunities to teach animation techniques within Japan.
