Veteran producer, Anime Mirai director coming to Baltimore convention in August

Otakon announced on Tuesday that it will host an Anime Mirai animation showcase at its August 9-11 convention in Baltimore, Maryland, and producer Michihiko Suwa and director Yuzuru Tachikawa will present the event. The showcase will feature an HD screening of the entire Anime Mirai project for the first time at an overseas event.

Suwa is a veteran producer of 30 years who is on the selection committee for Anime Mirai. He has served as producer for InuYasha, Black Jack, City Hunter, and Detective Conan.

Tachikawa was one of the directors featured in this year's Anime Mirai, for which he directed MADHOUSE's short film Death Billiards. He has also worked as an single-episode director for shows such as Attack on Titan, Bleach, and Steins;Gate.

Under the Anime Mirai program, the Japan Animation Creators Association (JAniCA) receives money from the Japanese government's Agency for Cultural Affairs, and it distributes most of those funds to studios who will train young animators on-the-job.

This year's Anime Mirai also included Trigger's Little Witch Academia, which will get a North American Blu-ray Disc release this summer.
