Fields: 'We Are Contemplating a 2nd Season for Majestic Prince Anime'

posted on by Sarah Nelkin
Space opera anime directed by Katanagatari's Keitaro Motonaga premiered in April

Financial firm Fields Corporation revealed in its “Summary of Financial Information and Business Results (Consolidated) for the First Quarter of the Year Ending March 31, 2014” report on Tuesday that it is contemplating on creating a second season of the Ginga Kikōtai Majestic Prince (Majestic Prince) anime. The company added that it intends to continue to cultivate the IP by releasing DVDs, developing domestic applications for computers and/or smart phones, producing goods, and making tie-in pachinko/pachinko-slot machines.

The story of the anime takes place in the Earth calendar year of 2110, where humanity has expanded its frontier into space in a quest for resources. Advances in genetic engineering research allow humans to adapt to the new frontier, leading to the advent of evolved children such as the protagonist Izuru (played by Hiroki Aiba). Izuru enrolls in the academy city Gurantseere, where students learn to pilot robotic mecha to protect humanity from the invasion of a mysterious lifeform known as "Urugaru." As part of the MJP Project, Izuru is assigned the impossible task of leading Team Rabbits — the team nicknamed the "Zannen 5" (Disappointing Five): Toshikazu Asagi (Shintarō Asanuma), Tamaki Irie (Yuka Iguchi), Kei Kugimiya (Yōko Hikasa), and Ataru Suruga (Junya Ikeda).

Keitaro Motonaga (Katanagatari, Jormungand) is directing the anime at the studios Dogakobo and Orange. Hisashi Hirai (Mobile Suit Gundam Seed franchise) is designing the characters, and Reiko Yoshida (K-ON! franchise) is in charge of the series scripts. The Fields Corporation and Sotsu Agency are responsible for the original concept.

Sentai Filmworks licensed the anime for digital and home video release in North America. Crunchyroll is currently streaming the anime outside of Japan.

The television series premiered in Japan on April 4.

Update: A second season of Majestic Prince is not in the works, but Fields is contemplating the idea.
